Conductor’s Chair Endowment

The Sonja Dahlgren Pryor Conductor’s Chair Endowment Fund is now established, and the fund raising operation is underway. You are invited to join in and help us to create this new Endowment! The Endowment Fund is a 501(c-3) organization and your contribution will be fully tax deductible.

The mission of this Endowment Fund shall be: to ensure the position of conductor and thus the stability of the chorus by honoring the achievements of Sonja Dahlgren Pryor, who for over 50 years has advanced choral arts on the North Shore.

When Sunny Pryor moved to Rockport, MA in 1961, she was invited to direct the Rockport Community Chorus. Under her skillful hands, the chorus became Chorus North Shore, which in 50 years grew into a 140-voice chorus singing numerous masterworks such as: The Verdi Requiem, the Brahms Requiem, Carmina Burana, and Handel’s Messiah, accompanied by a full orchestra. In September of 2005, Sunny started the Honors Youth Choir. The children, who audition, have their own concert and have the privilege of singing with the adult chorus.

Sunny has been the Artistic Director of Chorus North Shore for over half a century!

Recognizing that a time will come when Sunny will finally step down from the podium, our mandate as trustees is to look ahead and plan for the future of the chorus we love so much. To confront this moment, an endowment fund has been created to fund the Conductor’s Chair.

Our goal is to raise a minimum of $1,000,000, the income and growth from which can be used to hire and retain a highly capable successor for Sunny when she decides to step down.

Sunny has devoted 50 years to nurturing Chorus North Shore. It is fitting that she will now be assured that the Chorus she loved and inspired will continue with the help of this Endowment and its own special Board of Governors, the majority of whom are devoted singers in the Chorus, and whose primary purpose will be to achieve that goal.
